The Power of the Blood

(1) Scripture: Exodus 12:21-23, 29-31

Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. Not one of you shall go out the door of his house until morning. When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down. (Exodus 12:21-23, 29-31)

(2) Thoughts to Consider

  • We know that blood is running through our veins, because we're alive
  • Blood is a life-giving substance
  • God put blood in us and it has a purpose
  • Blood is critical and essential for us to sustain life
  • When the blood is not well, then we are not well
  • In the natural realm, we have to assure that the blood is right

(3) It is the blood that makes atonement for one's life

It is the shedding of blood of the sacrifices that originally was offered to the Lord as atonement for our sins.

Leviticus 17:11

"For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life"

To God sin is such an affront to His Holiness that it separates us from relationship with Him

Isaiah 59:2

"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear"

Romans 3:23

"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

In the Lord's eyes, the only suitable payment for such sin is death

Hebrews 9:22

"In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness"

Therefore, a sacrificial animal was sent in our place and the shed blood represented that its life was poured out for ours

(4) Chirst as the Passover Lamb

There lies blessings in passing over

1.) God called for an unblemished Passover lamb

·          The Israelites were instructed to offer a one year old lamb, which was free from any blemish

·          The sacrificial animal would cover them, but only for that one time

·          Jesus was the perfect sacrifice

·          Once Jesus died for us, no additional sacrifice would ever be needed

2.) The blood of the lamb was applied to the door post

·          This act brought the Israelites salvation from the Death Angel

·          Jesus' shed blood applied to the altar of our hearts will bring salvation from the penalty of sin
